Today, in the class professor showed us a report of his own displaying the number of shootings by police stations, that led me to an objective.

I wanted to understand the relationship between body camera usage and the race of the victim in fatal police shootings. So first I divided race of the individuals killed by a specific police stations, which looks like..

Then further categorized to know how many of the fatal shootings involved officers with body cameras turned ON and OFF for each racial group.

ps: I was hoping to find some patterns, but it doesn’t look like there are any major ones.

In today’s class, everyone expressed their ideas for objective.

Some of the questions I thought of, are

• How has the racial distribution of shooting victims changed over time?
• How many people were armed or unarmed in a given state or county, and which state or county had the most armed or unarmed individuals ?
• Which state or county has the fewest body cams turned on?
• How does the list of shootings in the U.S. compare to that of another country?

We got introduced to dataset of fatal police shootings from Washington post. And the objective of the class is to make meaningful analysis to find answers for questions we make up.

As per the objective the first step is to ask proper questions for the data given. A glimpse at data is enough to understand there are many questions that can be taken from it, but can they all be meaningful? no.

So, i dive into this week thinking of all the possible questions and select some good ones to move to second step.
